Newcastle’s Vilify Unveil Screamy New Single ‘Deadweight’

Last month we introduced you to Newcastle’s Vilify, the heavy, cathartic screaming outlet for The Beautiful Monument bassist Amy McIntosh to let her feelings out and give us all a fright in the process with her gnarly unclean vocals (revisit their debut single ‘Habithere) and now they’re back with the next single from their forthcoming EP Clarity (out December 4th) and this time, it’s personal!

According to Amy, ‘Deadweight‘ is about:

“…shitty friends really. Its about trying to be the bigger person but acknowledging the anger that comes with the realisation of true character. I love this song. Its cathartic as hell to scream it all out. I’m not even mad anymore, but you bet ever time I belt this song out I remember who my true friends are.”

The song itself is rough as fuck and sure to be a new fav for any hardcore fans out there. The combination of Kieran Jackson on drums and Deni Hourihan‘s guitars alongside Amy’s vocals towards the end of the song really showcase just how heavy this act can be and I’m getting some major High Tension/Karina Utomo vibes from them all which is sick!

On her newfound love for screaming, we asked Amy how doing with it all (to go from subtle screams with TBM, to fully belting out the yells with Vilify) to which she told us:

“I’m no poet, but it does feel good to be free to vent anger about the things that are important to me. So far… I’m still pissed off. So at the moment… expect more yelling! The future is open. We all view music as art so it will develop as we grow and develop. Right now however, I’m angry. Spin kick your best mate.”
